7 Best Locations to Elope in Iceland

BLACK SAND BEACH

By far one of the most iconic locations in Iceland is the Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach located just outside of Vik.

The best times to hold your ceremony is sunrise or evening as this beach is usually pretty crowded.

In the summer months, when the sun is out 22 hours of the day, going in the middle of the night is the absolute best time when no one else will be there.

Reynisfjara is about a 2.5hr drive from Reykjavik and about 3 hours from the Keflavik Airport. The road is a long stretch but the drive is stunning.

SKOGAFOSS

The most recognized waterfall in Iceland is Skogafoss. Known for it’s mighty crashing water and the constant wide flow, this waterfall is an absolute must see.

This is another fan favorite so tourists will be here all day. The best times to go are in the morning and evening- weekdays are better than weekends as well.

HAIFOSS

This is the biggest waterfall known to Iceland (that you can visit up close).

Haifoss has unreal views from the top and is not too hard to get to.

This waterfall is not as crowded and you should have an easier time getting photos wherever you’d like!

DIAMOND BEACH

Have you seen chunks of glaciers up close? Diamond Beach has them and you have to add it to your bucket list.

Glaciers drift from the bay area to the ocean and land on the beach looking like big chunks of diamonds.

VALAHNUKAMOL

For a wild and cold adventure- elope in this rocky terrain. Crashing waves and mighty winds take control in this desolate area.

Fun fact: Netflix’s Eurovision movie was filmed here! You and your newly spouse can play with planted keyboards here.

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga - Netflix

SVARTIFOSS

Are you seeing a pattern here? We love waterfalls in Iceland! After all, Iceland has over 10,000 of them.

Svartifoss is right next to Skogafoss and not as well known. For a more intimate experience- hold your ceremony here and explore what it’s like to go behind a raging waterfall.

ICELANDIC GLACIER

You are on the land of fire and ice so why not get married on a glacier tour?!

  • Take a moderate-to-easy hike up a glacier and share your vows surrounded by ice and clouds.
